And so it begins: How I got here and the story so far...

It all began with a goddamn tweet; also known as a post on Twitter. I was shamelessly self promoting my blog, Tonight Means More, where I've been posting regularly for the past year. Jean, a card-carrying communist of a lawyer who drives a pompous vehicle known as 'The White Dragon', saw my tweet and extended an invitation to form part of La Acera. And so, I find myself amongst this all-star team consisting mostly of writers and degenerate artists, with an occasionally A.D.D.-prone graphic artist thrown in for good measure.

Now, what I intend to do with this column is simple, but not necessarily simplistic. I'd like to offer you my take on things, how I perceive the world around me. From my subjective point of view, I'd like to inform you as well as entertain you, in a brief and engaging manner. I'm sure you'll find exceptional aspects in my personality (like the fact that I fear baldness more than I fear swine flu), but that's neither here nor there. My desire, above all things, is to write about what would otherwise not be written and challenge the way you think in unique and thought provoking ways. We may not always agree, but I look forward to a healthy discourse.

The name Perspectives is taken from a column that was written in 1967 by Ralph Gleason, who, along with Jann Wenner, founded Rolling Stone Magazine. I chose this title as an homage to an admirable journalist, but also because the very word exemplifies what I intend to provide - perspectives. I hope to engage you, the reader, with my perception of life in Puerto Rico and the world in general, as the first decade of the 21st century draws to an end. Let us open up a conversation and see where it takes us; a conversation that, in my opinion, has been long overdue.
